A Way of Choice or Forced Convergence
Adopting the Kings Language, English:
A Way of Choice or Forced Convergence
Genesis 11:1-9 “The Tower of Babel”
11 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2 As people moved eastward,[a] they found a plain in Shinar[b] and settled there.
3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”
8 So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel[c]—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
Words convey messages to people that can be interpreted in many different ways. Language is the navigator that people drive and communicate their ideologies, feelings, experiences, and preconceived beliefs.

Cultural Convergence Definition occurs when multiple cultures become more like one another through exposure to traditions, ideals, and languages. Adopting a language can combat some people’s stigma towards others, specifically encouraging the world to share the values of the language. However, the main difference in adopting another language is that it could cause an individual to feel shame or have self-confidence.
Shame is the feeling that there’s something wrong with you. Self-Confidence is an individual’s expectations of performance and self-evaluations of abilities and prior performance. It is also an individual’s trust in their abilities, capacities, and judgments, or belief that they can successfully face day-to-day challenges and demands. Lastly, confidence will bring you happiness.
So why would a person be able to adopt a language cause them to feel shame?
- Horizontal Individualism (HI)
- Vertical Individualism (VI)
- Horizontal Collectivism (HC)
- Vertical Collectivism (VC)
Therefore, one can assume that individuals that speak more than one language based on that experiment feel that they are better than others. The problem is that some people may sound different because they have an accent and pronounce their words differently. Some might say, “What Is Wrong With Sounding Black” or “Why Don’t Black People Speak Proper Grammar.” The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) needed Ebonics translators to translate wire tapes.
Let’s dive deeper into the word of God
“For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding, encouragement, and consolation. The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. Now I want you all to speak in tongues and prophesy even more. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues unless someone interprets so that the church may be built up. Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some revelation, knowledge, prophecy, or teaching?”
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
If you choose not to adopt another language like the English Language, that’s fine. You do not have to feel shame or guilt from doing not doing so. Cultural convergence is by choice. Adopting another language can make you feel confident. However, some people want to remain authentic to their native linguistics instead of adopting a language that is not authentic to them. If you sound as many put as “sounding black” or “sound proper,” that is still fine. Self-Confidence comes from you and God. It does not make you dumb or stupid if you choose not to sound a particular way. Just remember that God loves you; if one educates themselves, one will be intelligent. Forgetting the stigma that the world offers to adopt the principles of God is more important.
3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh—
